Yale Literary Magazine
Yale Literary Magazine is housed at Yale University, a private university in New Haven, Connecticut. They publish: poetry and prose (all creative genres).
They are only open to work written by Yale undergraduates and function as a student organization.
How does your magazine fit into your broader campus or literary community?
We put out biannual issues but we consider it equally important to be a literary home for people from all over campus. We partner with other student organizations to host large-scale events (like a poetry reading to open the school year, which has become somewhat of an annual tradition)! We’ve hosted workshops. We also host fun events aimed at helping people meet each other, like our recent Fall Formal. Something important to our organization is that anyone interested in publication can join our staff, and over the last few years, we’ve created a no-application-required Reader Program for those interested in learning how to evaluate submissions that has attracted hundreds of new faces to our team!
What have you found most exciting about working for or advising your magazine?
I've found it so rewarding to meet people from all corners of campus.

Where are you right now in the production cycle for your next issue?
We just launched our Fall issue in print and online and are wrapping up paying our contributors and opening submissions for our next issue in the Spring!

What do you think is the biggest challenge faced by undergraduate literary magazines?
The balancing act of ensuring your issues are high-quality without creating spaces that feel exclusive.
